February 2016

Dear colleagues and friends,

It is our pleasure to announce the 6th International Calicivirus Conference from 9-13 October 2016 in the beautiful coastal city of Savannah, Georgia, USA. This meeting, which is organized every 3 years, brings together scientists studying basic, applied, and environmental aspects of viruses belonging to the family Caliciviridae. In recent years significant progress has been made in understanding the burden and biology of calicivirus infections in humans including the complex relationships between intestinal microbial communities, mucosal immunity, environmental factors, and host genetics. In countries that have successfully implemented rotavirus vaccines, norovirus has now become the most frequent cause of viral gastroenteritis. Targeted treatments to better control norovirus have become closer to reality with the developments of antiviral drugs and the first results of a norovirus vaccine in clinical trials.

This conference aims at bringing together calicivirus researchers from all continents to present the latest scientific data, meet with leaders in the field, and actively participate in exchange of new data and ideas for collaborations. Experts in the calicivirus field will be invited to share the latest information on their research by state-of-the-art lectures. To promote participation of researchers from middle and low income countries, a limited number of travel fellowships for participants from these countries will be available.

The meeting will start on Sunday October 9 in the late afternoon with a key-note presentation followed by a welcome reception and concludes on Thursday October 13 at NOON. We look forward to welcoming you in Savannah!
